I’m tired of folks reacting with surprise and negativity when I talk to them about The Town, Ben Affleck’s directorial follow up to Gone Baby Gone. I’ve never been an Affleck hater, so here’s a couple of reasons why he doesn’t suck.
Chasing Amy - This film is a big glass of shut up juice to Affleck and Kevin Smith haters alike. Tell me sucks after watching this film and I’ll call you a liar.
Daredevil, yes, damnit, Daredevil - In spite of Mark Steven Johnston’s shitty writing and directing, there is a decent Matt Murdock in this film. And who plays him? Oh that’s right, Ben “the bomb in Phantoms" Affleck.
Who Wants to Marry an Eleventhousandaire? - All I remember is that this glorious SNL skit involved heavily implied forced sexual relations between Chris Kattan and Affleck’s white trash character. He should get a lifetime pass for this alone.
Gone Baby Gone & The Town - I had no idea that Boston had a seedy underbelly until I saw these movies. Okay, I saw The Departed, but Affleck used a lot more “real” people in these movies. And by “real” people, I mean actors from The Wire. Also, he got Morgan Freeman to A) Not narrate a film and B) Not dispense worldly advice!
So, there you have it. A couple of not too elaborated upon reasons that Ben Affleck doesn’t suck. It’s better that you seek out and judge this evidence for yourself, but don’t worry, you don’t have to watch all of Daredevil. Just skip to the parts where he’s at his mopey blind superheroiest.
